Part 2 of the Jerusalem mini-series. In this episode, we explore the Kidron Valley.
Season 1, Episode 38
In the last episode, we walked through Via Dolorosa in the Old City of Jerusalem, which led us to the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus spent lis last hours before he was taken to to be judged.
This Episode, we continue the Jerusalem tour as we descend into the Valley of the Shadow of Death.
Jerusalem rests on the edge of two valleys: The Hinnom and the Kidron.
Both of these Valleys do not have a pleasant history.
The Hinnom valley is where some of the kings of Judah sacrificed their children by fire to Molech, who is believed, by some scholars, to be Satan.
The Kidron valley, is where King Jehoshaphat overthrown the enemies of Israel, and where the Levites would throw away the unclean and defiled items to.
The Kidron valley is located on the east side of Jerusalem. If we exit Via Dolorosa street through the Lion’s Gate, and walk a few minutes east, we’ll find ourselves in the valley of Kidron.
Today the valley is a mix of ancient and modern graveyard. Since many Jews believe that they will be resurrected when Messiah will come through the East Gate, they are willing to pay big money to be buried as close to the gate as possible. So they could be the first to enter the new kingdom.
If only they knew that the Messiah they are waiting for had already told them that "the last will be first, and the first will be last."
As we descended lower into the Valley of the Shadow of Death, we find the monument which Absalom built for himself. Through generations, the Jews had an interesting custom to bring their children here and have them throw rocks at the monument, as a reminder to what happens when you disobey God.
According to the Bible, Absalom was not buried inside of his own monument. Instead, he was buried in a shame way. Joab threw him into a pit and piled a heap of rocks on top.
Today the monument is sealed, but in the early 20th century, they were able to get inside and find an inscription from the 4th century: “This is the tomb of Zachariah, the martyr, the holy priest, the father of John”. Could this really be the tomb of John the Baptist?
During the rebellion of Absalom, King David, fled Jerusalem through this valley. Then he mentions this valley in Psalm 23:
“Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”
Because this valley is located on the east side of Jerusalem, it is covered in shadow most of the day. The overlooking monument of the wicked king Absalom reminds the fate of those who rebel against God. The burial caves scream “death”, and the adjacent valley of Hinnom points to the eternal lake of fire. It makes sense for David to write these words as he fled from Absalom, but it even makes more sense to apply it to Jesus.
This valley is located right between Gethsemane and Jerusalem. So when Jesus was captured in Gethsemane, he had to actually walk through this valley, and into Jerusalem.
Right next to Absalom's monument is what believe to the Tomb of prophet Zachariah. However, the archeologist could not yet find the actual tomb as they have evidence to believe that this is a monolith. Completely carved out of the solid rock and does not contain a burial chamber.
I am a new subscriber and am just in awe at the comprehensive nature of your creative and artistic videos. Besides the obvious challenges, I am awed by the artistic and professional cinematography that draws me into the landscape and the serious nature of Israel's ancient history. I have learned quite a lot of Jewish/Hebrew history. Thank you for the stories, the beauty and the sharing of this awe inspiring and ancient, great land of Israel. Shalom.
At 4:25 and 4:40 min, he is talking about two times the same name, both written as 7-20-200-10-5 (wordvalue 242).
I write it this way because in this way it is the easiest to see. I wrote it from left to right, that's not right. It's like Z-k-r plus Jah; 10-5.
And there are also some Z-k-r plus 10-5-6 in the Bible (wordvalue 248). Plus one time Z-k-r in 1 Kron. 8 : 31.
Sergio & Rhoda in Israel Ah Got’cha. Thanks for your diligent response. You guys are cool. I’m not Jewish either and when I was there there was only one group who I felt had hatred towards me and that was the Ultra Hasidics. Everyonewas so nice, Hasidics were nice, just not the ultra Hasidics.
Is that Mount of Olive? I remember looking across at Mount of Olive from the cemetery where Oscar Schindler is buried. We put rocks on his tomb too. I went on a tour through these places but my interest in 2012 wasn’t what it is today but looking back at it I feel grateful to have experienced it, just as my stepmom said I would when my wife and I met them out there with our 14 month old daughter. I thought I was going to Israel to get killed in a terrify attack, I remember how angry I was at my stepmom for ever suggesting we go to what I thought was such hostile grounds but I was wrong, I was so wrong.
I took a notes everything from this video. It is amazing. Know i understand why David wrote that. I had a great time watching your videos. Question to sergio. Why is it your name is like an arab name? 😁
Hi, We will visit Israel in three weeks time. We have already been there last year, we visited the Absalom tomb but we were afraid to go further, I understood that the area is not safe. What is the situation now? Thank you.
Jesus wants to know why are you spending so much money on the DEAD and NOT on The Living?
We you look at the past for the future.. I AM is standing beside you it's the person right next to you . that's where I am IS ,you don't have to go anywhere else. Remember he threw out the money changers. spend your money and TIME on CARING FOR THE LIVING -let the dead bury the dead.
Ah CORRECTION There is NO WORD in HEBREW FOR HELL !! HASHEM is just getting ready to TAKE OUT THE TRASH ...AND BURN IT... Just Like the Miss Translation of the word for sin -- JUST MEANS YOU MISSED THE MARK..A righteous man falls down seven but gets up 8. so in other words if you were hunting and you shot once and Miss you'd starve to death.
Traditionally, it is identified as the temple era site. Just recently the facade was identified as 1st century, but this does not mean it was built in the 1st century. There are artifacts from the temple era, so it could have been modified in the 1st century. Maybe by Herod??
I have been to Kidron valley in fact you MUST go through Kidron valley if you want to go to the Mount of Olives from the old city. most people that visit Jerusalem go throughout the Kidron valley because its very very difficult to go to the Mount of Olives without going through it
Many noble prophet stepped their foot in this mighty city. Jews and chiristian ( during that time were true follower of prophet), because they were muslim. Over the time this people lost their identity and become the follower of satan until the muslim ( who submitted to Allah, god of adam, moses, jesus, solomon, david etc) conquest of palestine. But this misguided jew and christian again took this city in 1917 with a bloodbath of muslim. True childrens of isreal must should have muslim, not jew or christian. Because mohammad ( pbuh) is the final prophet and he bear the testimony of all previous prophet including jesus, moses, yahya( jhon the baptist), all are the beloved prophet of Allah. So islam is the only acceptable religion to Allah
I have been to Jerusalem but only briefly, I whizzed around as much as I could and soaked it all up. What a wonderful video, excellently filmed and edited, thank you! 😀 With the narrative and scripture too, you help to bring the past alive. i feel like I am back home. God bless and I have subbed 😊
NOT MANY people who have been to Jerusalem, I would wager, have ever been to the Kidron Valley(known to theJewish people as "the Valley Of Death". And I would also wager that EVEN FEWER have been to Absalom's Tomb,(which he had built for himself). Not knowing that he would ie a violent death at a young age, because he rebelled against his Father, King David. "AMAZING to see Absalom's tomb in such detail, AND, that it has survived 2 millenia of wars and such.. Sergio and Rhoda, you guys did such an outstanding job of touring Israel's Holy sites and archeology. Kudos To you Both.
Too bad the jews haven t accepted Jesus as the promised messiah and are still in the old law. They will have to go through the tribulation period after the Gentiles are raptured to meet Christ in the air.
15 You saw no form of any kind the day the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the fire. Therefore watch yourselves very carefully, 16 so that you do not become corrupt and make for yourselves an idol, an image of any shape, whether formed like a man or a woman, 17 or like any animal on earth or any bird that flies in the air, 18 or like any creature that moves along the ground or any fish in the waters below.
Zechariah 12. ' And they shall look on me whom they have PIERCED and they shall weep for HIM as for an only begotten son'. Coming true in our time, just before His return. Share the Good News with the Jewish people!.Shalom to you in Christ Yeshua.
I LOVE these things!! You help to bring the Old Testament into the New by these places you show us, and the history you give us!! Thank you SO MUCH! These places are absolutely amazing! I had no clue that all those things that happened in the Old Testament, happened right there in and around Jerusalem, way before there was a Jerusalem!
Be sure to check Psalms 22 in the Christian Bible ... very eye opening!
John 14:6 KJV, "Jesus saith, I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
1 Peter 2:24 NIV, "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed."
John 3:16 KJV, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life".
Romans 3:23-24 NIV, "...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus".
John 8:12 KJV, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life".
Jesus is the only WAY to God, the TRUTH of salvation, and the Breath/Bread of LIFE.
ACCEPT Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Sins separate us from God because He's Holy. All sins will be forgiven and erased through faith in Christ Jesus. God ♥ you, is alive, merciful, faithful, truthful, and is waiting with His arms wide open FOR YOU! For Jesus did not come to establish a religion, but to become a mediator between God and men.
Through the Grace of God, Jesus was given to us by paying the price at the Cross at Calvary. Repent and confess from your sins to Jesus and ask Him to forgive you. A sinner cannot save a sinner, only a sinless person can. That sinless Being is Jesus Christ Himself.
Through the faith in Christ Jesus, the sick was healed; everywhere He went, He healed the blind, the mute, the deaf, the demon-possessed, raised the dead, as well as performed many miracles; He also walked on water, turned water into wine, calmed the storm with His command, and was raised up from the dead. Miracles are still being seen today! Jesus is our helper, our healer, our refuge/protection, and our strength for when time gets tough.
God is standing and knocking at the door waiting for your answer right now because THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN IS COMING.
There is only one way out of this world alive, and His name is Jesus. If you are reading Lynn's words and these, and you do not know Jesus as your personal Savior, repent and choose Life. Choose Jesus. NOW. Time is running out. That's why these videos are available to us in such depth, such beauty and such realism. Open your mouth and ask Him to forgive you and save you, believing He is the perfect, crucified, resurrected Son of God, and you shall be saved.
Hello guys Ben. Erin and also Rhoda thank you so much for you Minnie series about old city Jerusalem I love watching this all episode you know guys one of my dream is to visit there I whant to know everything obout Jesus for now because I'm one of a million poor person I'm contented to you're video many thanks
Sergio, I don't know if it is You tube or my computer or what but when I try to make a reply comment, all comments disappear and I cannot make a reply. Perhaps you made it that way I don't know but it is weird. I was going to reply to Christine's post that my health issues also keep me from coming and visiting and seeing the sites and you guys are my eyes, hands, and feet visiting all these holy sites I get to feel like I am there through your video teachings and tours. Since I cannot be there physically and climb and hike (I am not as young as you are lol) I get to do so through you as does Christine I am sure! You guys are such a blessing! I wish I got to know you when you were here in the US but I FEEL I am getting to know you each week! I wish I could actually visit you in person though. I now understand why Charlie is always bragging on you guys and misses you as he does. You are wonderful people and friends to know and if you are ever back in the US I must make the effort to visit you and Charlie in Sarasota. I am only a few hours drive away from The Superior Word and will make it there one day, probably after I get some surgeries out of the way. Anyway, this is what I wanted to reply to Christine's post and not certain why you tube is keeping me from making replies to posts. Much love to you both again! Oh, and there was no food, no Schwarma's (hope I spelled it correctly) in this video lol Maybe someone will open a Jewish restaurant here and I will get to have a Schwarma one day lol :)
I just watched this and missed watching it last week. It is interesting that your friends suggested you be a tour guide as I was going to say the same thing. You know, like those like Amir Tsarfati who sells tour packages and takes buses of people to all the sites and gives the history. You really know the history of all these important special sites, holy sites plus your drone footage. You could even package all these videos with your drone footage on DVD for a special price. I would buy it especially if it was longer in length and deeper in teaching. I think you have found your calling Sergio with your knowledge and your special skills and computer knowledge. I don't know what it takes to do something like that but I think people would pay to come and visit with you guys and visit these holy sites. Maybe you could meet with Amir and find out how he does it. Though his teachings are rather bland, I love the way that you and Rhoda teach and show us the sites and even include some humor. I think you are very blessed to be over there and to be able to see these places and be able to fly you drones over the sites. I now have a better understanding of the Psalm of David about the Shadow of Death! Whatever and wherever the Lord leads you, I thank you both from the bottom of my heart. I am not able to visit (hopefully one day and when that day comes, I would love to see these places with you guys. May the Lord bless you guys greatly. You are doing a very wonderful thing here whether you realize it or not. Shalom! Much love I send to you both! And Fifi lol <3 And Rhoda, most of us are gentiles too and I consider that to be blessed and it matters not where our bodies lay after death as it means nothing. Jesus who knows our hearts also knows where our bodies lay and it will all happen in a millisecond, the twinkling of the eye. The rich believe they can buy their way into the kingdom but it is the meek and followers of Jesus, us, who ARE already in His Kingdom. Be blessed! Again, much love and thanks to you guys!
Sergio and Roda, guys, I'm so bummed, I can't find you in my library! You were there and I put your videos on and let the play during the day. All of us here love them, but they dissappeared! Of course it might be something I did, but you both are such a blessing to me and us. Walter
Hi Sergio and Roda, I had to search under recently added and found them. It's the first time that's ever happened, but so, it's just a little more work but you're worth it, lol. Many blessings this week. Always looking forward to your vedios and comments and you are always in my prayers.
Have you two gone to see the grave site for Adam and Eve Abraham and Sarah?.....Pastor Isaac from Assembly of Called out Believers talks about the steps in front of it etc....I think that is a wonderful area to visit and show all of us as well ....thank you for your wonderful videos btw....:-)
Darn selfish people...lol....maybe one day they will allow people to see it ...maybe Pastor Isaac knows a way because he got to see it ....he is definitely someone you guys could find things out he seems to know more things about the bible then anyone I've ever seen....anywho thanks again for all you two do!
Hi Exxiean, Thank you so much!!! There is not one clear place about the tombs of Adam and Eve. If they stayed somewhere close to the garden of Eden territory during their life (the Bible mentions that they went East of the garden), then the tombs far from Israel today. Some other theories claim that one of them is buried where Saudi Arabia, which Israelis can't visit. The tombs of Abraham and Sarah, on the other hand, are not far but unfortunately they are under the control of the Palestinian territories right now and its a dangerous area for us. You are right, it would be wonderful visiting that sight, we really want to but we can't :(
Wow...I hope you and Rhoda have a idea how much so many appreciate all your hard work to make these videos . To fight the traffic..crowds..etc...to share with us these wonderful and interesting places of Israel and the Bible. Now...if I lived in Israel...I wouldn't worry about the million dollar price tag to be buried.I would just be cremated and my ashes tossed there for free ..lol : )
Sergio & Rhoda. . please a Suggestion: consider narrating This video of Hebron IF you're ever pressed for time ' Cave of the Patriarchs ' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UMduxVDC6w No real Info in present narration & I like to learn More, Please... thanks!! kate...D
Rhoda, So admire your Bravery !!! - lack of Claustrophobia in Exploring those 'secret places' such LOW ceilings.... never realized my aversion to 'Tight Spots' until I visited Israel... Adore y'all's Enthusiasm in presenting His Treasures !! Thank you Both !! 'Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures: And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures" 1 Cor.15:3-4
Haha! Thank you Kate!! I (Rhoda) do have many limits that I wouldn't cross but Sergio is a better sport than me. The caves, surprisingly, had plenty of room and not as clustered as they may seem. God bless you!! 😊
I don’t think that the Judgement will take place in the Kidron Valley because it’s clearly mention in the Bible that GOD will judge all nations on Zion. And Zion is located in front of the Valley of Jehoshaphat. Another name of the Valley of Jehoshaphat is the valley of Hinnom . “ I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land”. (Joel 3:2)
Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about.Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great. Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel. (Joel 3:12-16)
Hey Sergio & Rhoda. I listened to an interview with a man named Ken Klein this week. He's a born Again Messianic believer who makes bible based documentaries. I thought of you when I watched one of his documentaries, and think you might want to check out his work. If you go to his website you can watch for free, just sign up and follow. You might want to contact him, you have the talent to team up maybe? https://kenkleinproductions.net/
Just some food for thought, allow God to guide you. Blessings in Yeshua's Name.
WOW! so very interesting the teaching. The type and shadow of the "Shadow of the valley of death" with it covered a good deal of the day by Shadow. ---WOW The whole episode is beyond Amazing. Congratulations on a job well done! You were very brave Rhoda to go into those caves. Love to you both---keep up the good work--the world is listening and watching and they love your work!!!!! jan
Such amazing video! I was with you every step of the way; sort of "shaking in my boots" in suspense with each scene. And seeing the path that David walked, spoken of in the 23rd Psalm and that Jesus walked to the cross was truly a moment of impact; like being there in person! I'm so glad I don't need one of those expensive burial sites to be ready for King Jesus's return! Wow, I can't wait for next week! Thank you for your excellent work!
Rhonda and Sergio...You are EXCELLING at your craft...as HE COMMANDS...to be EXCELLENT at whatever you are called towards as a profession to share GOODNESS and LIGHT with the world. I have so begun to appreciate Ms.R in a wonderful new way...as she IS my traveling EYE and EARS for all things MESSIAH I longed to see for years before now having to focus on health matters.. MANY BEREKAH your way...for you have just made my day very special with this video... BIG HUGS ! What GOOD it is to see the internet used for TRUTH and LIGHT :)
Well there ya go I had no idea that the Vally of the Shadow of Death is a real place!!!!! I really thought it was a spiritual reference. Again you bring Israel, Jerusalem and the Bible to life for me. I am so looking forward to that day when we are home with the lord and I can give you both a big hug......Better yet save a place for me at the Wedding feast there will be FOOD there lol that works for me LOL God Bless you 2 god bless
I love this Sergio and Rhoda. I'm going to try and make dying* the last thing I do; even if it kills me! Even so, Jesus said, "He who believes in Me shall NEVER die!" Therefore it shouldn't matter to anyone In Christ, where he or she is buried. (Jew or Gentile) We will be there when the nations will be judged in the Kidron Valley ie.. the "Valley of Jehoshaphat." That day will be something, and I can't wait . Anyone who has raised his hand (or mouth) against Israel will be justly punished. And remember. God has a very accurate and L e n g t h y memory. I think He is saving up something very special for Germany and the rest of European countries who have something to answer for. Sorry for being so verbose in my reply. Love you folks and a double Shalom on you.
Hi George, we might add it in although we haven't gone there on this specific trip because we didn't have time with the tight schedule. The church has stronger proof than the garden, but it is very shrine-y.
For example, an American fashion company might source fabric in China and have the clothes manufactured in Vietnam, finished in Italy, and shipped to a warehouse in the United States for distribution to retail outlets internationally. The fashion industry has long been one of the largest employers in the United States, and it remains so in the 21st century. However, employment declined considerably as production increasingly moved overseas, especially to China. Because data on the fashion industry typically are reported for national economies and expressed in terms of the industry’s many separate sectors, aggregate figures for world production of textiles and clothing are difficult to obtain . However, by any measure, the industry accounts for a significant share of world economic output.
The fashion industry consists of four levels: the production of raw materials, principally fibres and textiles but also leather and fur; the production of fashion goods by designers, manufacturers, contractors, and others; retail sales; and various forms of advertising and promotion. These levels consist of many separate but interdependent sectors, all of which are devoted to the goal of satisfying consumer demand for apparel under conditions that enable participants in the industry to operate at a profit.
